Water (수, su) is the element of depth, of flow, and of the intelligence that moves through channels rather than breaking them. Those born under Water are perceptive and intuitive in ways that go beyond ordinary observation — you sense the undercurrents in situations, understand motivations that haven't been spoken, and navigate complexity with a fluid grace that other elements can only admire.
In the Korean 오행 system, Water governs the north and the season of winter — the time of stillness, of internal life, of gathering strength beneath the surface. Its color is black, the color of depth and mystery. Water people live much of their lives in this interior dimension: rich with feeling, rich with thought, and sharing only what they choose to share.
Challenges
Water's adaptability becomes a liability when there is no center to adapt from. You can become what the environment demands of you — shifting, accommodating, flowing — without ever committing to who you actually are. This causes a formlessness that unsettles both you and the people who care about you. The work of a Water person is learning to be fluid without being invertebrate.
Water in Combination
A Water Rat becomes the most strategically gifted version of an already clever sign — reading patterns in situations and people with extraordinary precision. A Water Snake moves through the world with an almost supernatural sense of timing, appearing at exactly the right moment to achieve exactly what it wants.
Finding Your Element
Your element is determined by the last digit of your birth year. If your year ends in 2 or 3, you are Water. Combine this with your animal sign to understand how your element shapes your character within the Korean 띠 system.
